New Tube ticket office times to support London travel

Date: 31/1/2011
People who use the Tube to travel within London have been informed that staff at stations will now be used in a more effective manner. The success of the Oyster card system means fewer commuters use ticket offices and, as a result, employees will spend less time behind counters and more time where they are most needed, Transport for London (TfL) said.
Just one in 20 journeys on the London Underground (LU) involve a ticket office purchase, with the internet and Oyster cards proving popular.
From February 6th new ticket office opening times will be introduced to enable staff to meet the needs of passengers more appropriately.
LU Chief Operating Officer Howard Collins said: "We have made the commitment that our high safety standards will be retained - every station will remain staffed and that every station with a ticket office will still have one with opening times that reflect demand."
Passengers who use the London Overground were more impressed with the reliability and frequency of the service last year than they were in 2009, TfL revealed a recent Passenger Focus study as discovering.
