New website launched to help bikers choose safest helmet

Date: 27/5/2010
A new website designed to give motorcyclists the best advice when it comes to choosing a helmet has been launched by the Road Safety Minister. The site comes in conjunction with new safety ratings for helmets and 200 of the products have now been rated.
Mike Penning who was appointed as the new Road Safety Minster on May 14th - said around 50 deaths could be avoided every year if bikers wore the safest helmet they could find.
He remarked that providing access to safety information, along with making drivers more aware of motorcyclists, should help to cut the number of tragedies on the roads.
There is a legal minimum safety requirement for all helmets, but the Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme uses extensive testing to reveal how protective they are.
Riders can also get tips and advice about choosing the right headwear and how important it is to find a helmet that fits well.
