New tram service considered between Watford and St Albans

Date: 4/1/2010
Around 450,000 passengers every year could benefit from a new tram service between Watford and St Albans under new proposals that are being considered in a public consultation. The Department for Transport and Hertfordshire County Council are asking rail passengers for their views on the proposed service, which would run two to three times an hour.
The service would replace the current train service, which runs just once every 45 minutes.
Transport secretary Andrew Adonis commented that the new service could boost business in the area and offer an improved and more flexible service to rail users.
"Local people are best placed to make decisions about local transport which is why I would strongly urge them to take part in the consultation," he added.
London Midland currently operates the existing train line.
Meanwhile, many commuters starting work this week are likely to find their rail fares have fallen this year as many fares were cut on Saturday (January 2nd).
