Next year 'looks very promising' for electric cars

Date: 15/10/2010

Trials of electric vehicles have given very positive results and the popularity of the cars is set to rise next year.

That is the view of Dr Ben Lane, Director of WhatGreenCar.com, who was commenting on a study conducted by the Coventry and Birmingham Low Emission Demonstrators project on users of Mitsubishi innovative electric vehicles.

It found owners of the cars reported growing confidence and low refuelling costs six months after purchasing them.

Dr Lane said this demonstrates "that when people actually drive electric vehicles their expectations significantly rise".

Consequently, the government should give the public more opportunities to try out the cars, he continued.

Dr Lane remarked: "2011 looks like it will be a very promising year for electric vehicles."

He stated this is because the trials are continuing throughout the rest of this year and consumer grants, which are worth up to £5,000, will be made available in January.
