Nissan LEAF wins green car award

Date: 14/1/2011

Labelled "one of the most exciting" vehicles the judges have tested, the LEAF from Nissan has been presented with the Ultra Low Carbon prize at this year's What Car? awards.

The accolade follows the same motor being named as the 2011 Car of the Year.

What Car? Editor-in-Chief Steve Fowler said: "The Nissan LEAF ... actually stacks up as a sensible family buy with plenty of space, lots of gizmos, good build quality and, of course, low running costs."

Meanwhile, Paul Willcox, Managing Director at Nissan Motor, claimed that the prize was a further step towards the widespread acceptance of electric cars within the mainstream and that the vehicle had been able to demonstrate all-round appeal.

Other winners at the awards ceremony included the Volkswagen Golf, which was named as the What Car? Small Family Car for the fifth year running and also picked up the Security Award.
