North-east Cambridgeshire MP praised for safety initiative

Date: 17/5/2012
The MP for north-east Cambridgeshire has been named as Brake and Direct Line's road safety parliamentarian of the month.Steve Barclay has been praised for his successful initiative to get a speed camera reactivated on a stretch of the A47, following lengthy discussions with the Highways Agency regarding costs.
His campaign also led to the introduction of signs along the route in a bid to prevent further accidents.
Mr Barclay is now attempting to get a barrier installed between a waterway and stretch of road in his constituency after a young girl was killed.
"I am honoured to receive the recognition from Brake," the MP said. "I hope this stretch of road will be a little safer as a result."
Last month's road safety parliamentarian of the month award went to Harlow MP Robert Halfon after he fought to get a 50mph speed limit introduced on a three-mile sector of the Crooked Mile in Waltham Abbey.
