North Staffordshire businesses pushing for HS2 station

Date: 7/2/2013
Following the unveiling of plans for the second phase of HS2, business leaders and politicians in North Staffordshire have issued calls for a station to be built in the area. With the route set to pass through Staffordshire on its way from Birmingham to Crewe, their hope is that the county could benefit from a station that would be served by the line when it becomes operational.
Jane Gratton, a representative from the North Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce, told the Sunday Politics show in the West Midlands that there is a strong business case for a station that could bring substantial economic benefits to the region.
The latest HS2 proposals have received a mixed reception, with some Staffordshire residents said to be angry at the prospect of a line that cuts through the county's rural landscape without offering any direct benefits to its residents.
Ms Gratton added that a station would also play a role in helping the area to cope with future population growth along the HS2 route.
