North Yorkshire Police 'is improving road safety across Europe'

Date: 18/10/2010
Police in North Yorkshire have been sharing road safety practices with officers from Romania as part of a continent-wide initiative.Six Romanian officers visited the county through Tispol (European Traffic Police Network)'s Lifesaver project, which aims to improve road safety across Europe, the Police Oracle reports.
The scheme allows police to share strategic, tactical and operational practices through foreign exchange visits.
Deputy Chief Constable Adam Briggs, Council and Executive Member UK for Tispol, said: "I am proud that North Yorkshire Police is part of the Lifesaver project and that we are making a positive contribution to road safety, not just in this country but throughout Europe."
He added one of the unit's major priorities is to make the roads safer and its work with European colleagues is highly beneficial in that respect.
Tispol aims to reduce the number of people being killed or seriously injured on the continent's roads and believes the enforcement of traffic law and education can help achieve this aim.
