Date: 15/12/2010
A university in Northern Ireland is to launch a road safety campaign with the aim of raising awareness among young drivers of the dangers of getting behind the wheel. The University of Ulster Students' Union will be unveiling the initiative in the new year - and the project will include a dummy car crash taking place outside the union to drive home the message.
Vice-President for Education and Welfare Emma Annett said a lot of deaths that take place on the roads in Northern Ireland involve young motorists.
"We decided one of our first campaigns in 2011 would aim to encourage students to become safer drivers and hopefully help reduce the number of road accidents as a result," Ms Annett remarked.
Kent Highways Services' road safety team recently developed a new drink driving campaign after emphasising just one alcoholic beverage can slow down a motorist's reaction time and affect their judgement and perception.
