Northern Rail wins transport award

Date: 27/5/2010

Northern Rail bagged the top transport award at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards.

Managing director Ian Bevan said the organisation is delighted to have won for the second year in a row.

He remarked: "This award is recognition of the commitment and dedication of all our employees to provide a safe environment for their colleagues and passengers."

The accolade recognises commitment to improving health and safety standards.

David Rawlins, award manager for RosPA, said it is not just about ethical issues and legal requirements, but also about a strong business case.

And he explained RoSPA is pleased to be able to honour those who offer outstanding services.

Northern Rail - the UK's largest train operator - employs 4,800 people and provides more than 2,000 train services every day.

The company serves a population of 15 million individuals in the north of England.
