Nottingham to benefit from £12m congestion measures

Date: 5/7/2013
A £12 million funding package to improve the Nottingham ring road was given final approval by Transport Minister Norman Baker yesterday (July 4th).The aim of the scheme is to tackle congestion in the area and improve the public transport network in the city.
As part of the initiative, key junctions will be upgraded and widened while more effective crossing facilities will be installed for the benefit of pedestrians.
"The work I have approved will ease this congestion, improve bus journey times and make the road safer for pedestrians and cyclists," Mr Baker said.
"The £12.8 million we are putting into this scheme shows that the coalition government is serious about investing in the infrastructure the country needs to drive economic growth."
While the project was initially approved towards the end of 2011, it is only now that plans have been rubber stamped. Work is set to be completed in the summer of 2015.
