'On time' journeys improve on UK's roads

Date: 12/1/2012
There has been an improvement in the number of journeys that were made 'on time' on the UK's road network.Released by the Department for Transport, data shows 82.7 per cent of journeys on Britain's motorways and A roads were made on time in the year to November 2011.
This is an increase of 0.4 percentage points on the November 2010 to October 2011 period and continues nine months of gradual improvements.
In November last year, 81.2 per cent of journeys on roads managed by the Highways Agency were on time - 4.6 percentage points higher than November 2010's figure.
The information is gathered using equipment such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras and in-vehicle GPS and a 'journey' represents the period of travel between two adjacent junctions.
Last month, Non-Executive Chairman of the Highways Agency Alan Cook led a review into the government's management of motorways and trunk roads, suggesting improved efficiency targets should be introduced to boost the economy and save money.
