Pakistan unveils first major urban public transport system

Date: 11/2/2013
Pakistani authorities have unveiled a Metro Bus network in Lahore - the first major urban public transport scheme in the country.Serving a 20-mile stretch between the city centre and the suburbs, the route is expected to ferry as many as 12,000 passengers an hour along the dedicated roadway, the Global Post reports.
The project was completed with the help of Turkish company Al-Buraq, with a total of 27 stations placed on the route as part of attempts to ease congestion in the country's second largest city.
It is expected that commuters will enjoy significant benefits as a result of the transport network, and the authorities are said to be delighted that the initiative was completed in less than a year as Lahore begins to reap the rewards of the scheme.
