Parents 'promoting an interest in green transport'

Date: 23/3/2011

Parents have revealed that they believe that realising the benefits of environmentally-friendly transport is one of the traits their children pick up from them.

A new survey by Triodos Bank showed that some 15 per cent of mums and dads claim that their kids are interested in green modes of transport thanks to the views of their parents.

Electric cars and vehicles with low carbon emissions could be chosen by individuals who have been influenced by their family to do so, along with decisions to be sensible with money and recycle rubbish.

Huw Davies, Head of Personal Banking at Triodos Bank, said: "While parents themselves have made some changes to their ... environmental behaviour since having children, they clearly feel an even stronger duty to pass these values on to their children."

The Department for Business Innovation and Skills recently announced that the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council will provide a £10 million fund to go towards three new green transport projects.
