Parents 'should remember a back-to-school Zip Oyster card'

Date: 1/9/2010
Parents have been encouraged to apply for a Zip Oyster card so their children can access reduced-rate public transport when they return to school.Transport for London (TfL) has urged people to take advantage of the photocard scheme, which entitles 11 to 15-year-olds to free bus and tram travel, as well as child fares on the Tube, Docklands Light Railway, London Overground and National Rail.
Kulveer Ranger, the Mayor of London's Transport Adviser, said parents should not forget the card when preparing their kids for the start of a new term.
"A lot of children use public transport to get to school so this fantastic scheme really can help ease the financial burden on parents," he commented.
The Zip Oyster is an important accessory for all students in the capital, Mr Ranger added.
Steve Burton, Director of Community Safety, Enforcement and Policing at TfL, stated the project is of great benefit to youngsters.
TfL was established in 2000 and is responsible for London's transport system and implementing the mayor's strategies.
