'Passengers will benefit' from London Overground electric trains

Date: 15/9/2010
The recently-completed electric train fleet of the London Overground will benefit passengers instantly, it has been claimed.Ian Brown, Managing Director of Transport for London (TfL) London Rail, said he is pleased to see the outcomes of the city's upgrade programme after the final four-carriage trains were added to the system.
"Passengers will notice the immediate benefit of these longer trains, which greatly increase capacity," he remarked.
He thanked transport users for their patience during upgrade work carried out earlier in the year that made it possible to extend the system.
Kulveer Ranger, the mayor's Transport Adviser, described the improvement as another example of Boris Johnson's investment in the capital's transport network.
The mayor will continue to strive to "keep London moving", despite tough economic conditions, he continued.
Earlier this month, Mr Johnson hailed the success of the city's Barclays Cycle Hire scheme as it reached over half a million journeys.
