People prefer small regional airports, survey says

Date: 30/7/2010
The majority (63 per cent) of people would prefer to fly from a smaller regional airport, a new survey has indicated.Figures from airporttransfers.co.uk also revealed 48 per cent of individuals are prepared to travel more than 100 miles to an airport if it was "decent".
And 26 per cent of respondents claimed having a bad experience at an airport can "ruin a holiday".
The report showed Birmingham Airport was named as the best airport, followed by Cardiff and then Liverpool.
Spokesman from Birmingham Airport Daniel Scaife said staff at the travel hub are delighted to have topped the poll, especially as passengers provided the feedback.
"We have said for some time that rather than looking to expand elsewhere Birmingham has the potential and spare capacity to cater for the increasing demand for air travel," he added.
Mr Scaife noted the travel hub is currently undertaking a £13 million project to merge its two terminals and the establishment also has planning permission for a runway extension.
