Perth's Public Transport Authority launches investigation following bus fires

Date: 25/3/2013

Perth's Public Transport Authority has announced it is launching an investigation following a spate of fires on the city's buses.

As Perth Now reports, transport bosses are currently trying to discover the cause of another fire which badly damaged a gas bus last night (March 24th) - this a month after drivers threatened to walk off the job unless answers were provided to explain the cause of similar blazes on other public vehicles.

The latest bus to catch fire was not in service at the time, and fortunately no staff or passengers were nearby.

According to reports, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services claimed that an initial investigation suggested a faulty fuel line had caused the blaze.

Last month, workers who are part of WA's Transport Workers Union held an urgent meeting following calls for Perth's 550-strong gas bus fleet to be taken off the roads after a series of fire-related incidents.
