Peugeot: Hybrid diesel cars are better than petrol alternatives

Date: 16/3/2012

Peugeot's hybrid diesel car produces fewer CO2 emissions than standard hybrid motors, an expert has explained.

Public Relations Manager at the manufacturer Kevin Jones said the majority of hybrid vehicles apply an electric motor to a standard petrol engine.

However, Peugeot's model is better because diesel engines already produce less CO2 than petrol alternatives.

"So manufacturers like Honda and Toyota and Lexus that have big petrol engines need to have a way of lowering that CO2 just to make them as good as diesel," Mr Jones stated.

His firm's model works by using a diesel engine to power the front wheels, while the back is controlled by the hybrid system which means individuals can travel for around 2.5 miles in slow traffic solely on the electric motor.

Peugeot has developed many environmentally-friendly solutions for its vehicles, including the Stop & Start system, which is an an e-HDi micro-hybrid technology that automatically stops a car's engine when it is stationary.
