Plans for £130m Abbey Wood Crossrail station unveiled

Date: 9/7/2013
Plans to construct a £130 million Crossrail station at Abbey Wood were submitted to Bexley and Greenwich councils yesterday (July 8th).The proposals include a two-level station with two new platforms for Crossrail trains - as well as step-free access for passengers.
If the initiative gets the go-ahead, developers expect work to be completed by 2017. By the following year, trains would run every five minutes during peak hours.
Crossrail Chief Executive Andrew Wolstenholme said: "The station will dramatically improve transport links, reduce congestion on existing rail services, provide a boost to the local economy and support wider regeneration in south-east London."
Under the plans, the existing station would be demolished and replaced by a temporary stop in the summer of 2014.
The entire Crossrail project is predicted to cost £14.8 billion as the Government continues its drive to improve transport between the capital and the south-east region of the UK.
