Plug-in van grant launch 'is good news'

Plug-in van grant launch 'is good news'

Date: 27/1/2012

The decision to extend the plug-in car grant to vans is good news for fleet operators that want to become more environmentally-friendly.

This is the view of Dr Ben Lane of Next Green Car, who said while it was widely expected that the Department for Transport would make the move, "it's good to have that confirmed."

Dr Lane noted many applications for the grant came from fleet operators utilising duty vehicles so it "makes sense" that the government extends the scheme.

The plug-in van grant will enable private and business buyers to secure a 20 per cent discount - up to a maximum of £8,000 - on the purchase of eligible ultra-low emission vans, which, Dr Lane stated, includes the new Kangoo Z.E. from Renault.

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport Norman Baker said the plug-in car grant, which offers a 25% discount up to £5,000, will continue at its current level and could be in place until 2015.
