Politicians push for dualling of the A1

Date: 28/2/2013
Politicians in Northumberland have welcomed the Secretary of State for Transport's visit to the county as they continue with their bid to have dualling introduced on certain sections of the A1.As the Berwick Advertiser reports, MP Sir Alan Beith and Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Director of the Dual the A1 campaign, met Patrick McLoughlin to stress the benefits that improving the A1 would have for the area.
"I stressed to him that the strategic importance of the A1 to the north-east of England and east of Scotland made it a prime contender for job creation investment," Mr Beith said.
Ms Trevelyan added that she was "encouraged" by the Secretary of State's attitude to the initiative, and also highlighted specific points along the road that she believes are most in need of review - including the single carriageway stretch past Tritlington that could be widened in a bid to make the route from Newcastle to Alnwick all dualled.
