Port Marine Safety Code modified

Date: 30/10/2009

Safety standards for UK port workers were increased yesterday by transport minister Paul Clark.

Changes to promote safety among the 54,000 employed in UK's ports are being rolled out and will reportedly affect transparency of roles, responsibilities, and legal obligations.

The announcement took place during a special event on board the HQS Wellington and would present a revised Port Marine Safety Code.

Minister Paul Clark said: "I hope that by updating the Code, the industry will have an even clearer guide to port marine safety, enabling them to continue the excellent work they already do."

The original Port Marine Safety Code was introduced in March 2000 and outlines safety compliance standards for all port authorities.
