Proposed Tramlink extension submitted to TfL

Date: 31/5/2013
Plans for an extension to the South London Tramlink route which would see it run to Morden have been submitted to (TfL) Transport for London by Sutton Council. As the Wimbledon Guardian reports, the proposals include five stops in Merton as well as a line that would run alongside Morden Hall Park, following the route towards St Helier Avenue and the Rosehill Roundabout.
The service would then continue to Sutton train station - as well as stopping in the town centre via the Angel Hill area.
Councillor Andrew Judge, Cabinet Member for Environmental Sustainability and Regeneration, said: "We fully support the extension of Tramlink to Sutton through Merton and are working closely with Sutton Council to put forward a strong business case to TfL."
He added that extending the Tramlink would help to stimulate investment in the area, creating job opportunities and increasing the ease with which people can reach Morden and Sutton.
