Public vote for extra tube services for Wimbledon

Date: 30/9/2011
Nearly 80 per cent of people have voted for extra tube services in Wimbledon. The new timetable is set to be introduced in December 2011 and London Underground (LU) confirmed the weekday Kensington Olympia service will be withdrawn to make way for five additional trains to Wimbledon.
Almost 18,000 members of the public were consulted over the changes, which will affect the District Line.
Mike Brown, LU's Managing Director, said: "For District Line customers, the introduction of the new timetable will reduce delays across the whole line."
Mr Brown continued by saying that 4,000 passengers will be catered for in the morning on what is one of the busiest branches on the District route.
He added he would like to extend his thanks to everyone who participated in the consultation.
It comes after the Docklands Light Railway Stratford International extension recently opened, allowing for an extra 130,000 passengers to be catered for in a seven-day period earlier this month.
