Date: 29/6/2010
Road safety and the environment are on the agenda of a new programme taking place in Chester.Let's Walk is being held to help children stay safe as well as encouraging people to use their cars less, Chester First reports.
The scheme got underway with experts visiting schools to explain to youngsters how to cross roads safely.
As well as being told how to use different types of crossing, the pupils are learning what they should do when crossing at junctions or between parked cars.
Local Councillor Lynn Riley said the campaign would also help youngsters who want to cycle.
Sustrans, the charity for sustainable transport, recently revealed more children are turning to greener travelling to get to school, with 26 per cent now cycling the journey.
This is double the figure that was recorded before the charity started its Bike It programme as a means to encourage more travel by bicycle.
