Reading to run 'largest fleet of natural gas powered buses in the UK'

Date: 2/5/2013
Reading is set to boast the country's largest fleet of natural gas powered buses as a total of 20 such vehicles are introduced to the roads over the coming month, Business Green reports.Running on nothing but compressed natural gas, the buses are expected to have a significant impact on lowering carbon emissions and reducing levels of nitrogen oxide.
Councillor Tony Page, Reading Borough Council's Lead Member for Regeneration, Transport and Planning, told the news provider that the local authority is dedicated to tackling greenhouse gases and making environmental improvements.
"These new buses represent a very real step forward and these services will soon be able to claim to be one of the first genuinely carbon neutral bus services in Britain," he added.
The first phase of the project will see 11 buses take to the streets next Tuesday (May 7th), while a further nine will be added by the end of May.
