Recharging points 'not preventing EV take-up'

Date: 15/2/2012
Issues surrounding recharging are not preventing the take-up of electric vehicles (EVs) in the UK, an expert has argued.Dr Ben Lane from Next Green Car said the state of Britain's recharging infrastructure does not have as big a part to play in the matter as many people believe.
This is because many of those with an EV have a charging point in their home.
Furthermore, the majority of companies with a fleet of motors would charge them in the workplace, meaning they do not have to use public points, Dr Lane continued.
However, he admitted strengthening the sector would send a positive message to motorists.
"The more public access recharging infrastructure there is, the stronger the signal that the government is supporting electric vehicles," the expert stated.
Dr Lane recently claimed EVs are an attractive option for fleet operators, as low-emission motors can reduce the cost of associated capital expenditure in the first year.
