Renault announces sustainable mobility scheme

Date: 12/7/2012

French car maker Renault has launched a new scheme which focuses on sustainable and social mobility.

Renault Mobiliz will be the first social business initiative in mobility from a French carmaker and it aims to restore the autonomy of people who generally tend to have low incomes.

It will focus primarily on three areas.

These areas are real-life mobility service solutions, the creation of an investment company to finance mobility projects and finally a partnership with the Enterprise and Poverty Chair at HEC Paris.

The company hope that by embarking on this venture, it will be able to help the eight million people currently living under the poverty line in France to access and maintain a vehicle.

Renault has always claimed that sustainable mobility is a core component in its corporate social responsibility efforts.

The carmaker also feels that not only is it vital for economic development and the creation of social bonds but that it can also benefit leisure activities and the battle against exclusion and poverty.

Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of Renault and chairman of MOBILIZ Invest s.a.s, said: "The objective of Renault MOBILIZ is to bring people in precarious situations the resources to become autonomous and thereby help them to reintegrate the social and professional world.

"The program will enable Renault to strengthen its local presence and open the way to new economical and innovative mobility solutions."

The main aims of the venture include the development and support new mobility platforms run by the Voiture & co organisation and also the proposal that car repair prices be adapted to people with low incomes at volunteer Renault garages.

Renault is also keen to finance organisations that develop innovative mobility solutions for people through MOBILIZ Invest s.a.s.

Finally, the company has said it wants to share knowledge and engage in dialogue on social business projects with civil society representatives, public authorities companies committed to the scheme.ADNFCR-2726-ID-801406162-ADNFCR
