Date: 23/7/2013
Renault-Nissan has shipped its 100,000th zero-emission car to an American graduate, signalling the popularity of its green vehicles.Drivers of the Alliance’s zero-emission cars, which include the Nissan LEAF and the Renault Kangoo Van Z E, have together driven 841 million kilometres (522 million miles) without using any fuel.
This has prevented around 124 million kg of tailpipe C02 emissions, saving around 52 million litres of oil.
"The age of the mainstream zero-emission vehicle is here," said Renault-Nissan Alliance Chairman and Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn.
"We expect demand to keep growing as the charging infrastructure develops - and we remain 100 per cent committed to zero-emission technology for the long term."
American Allison Howard, who was the 100,000th customer when she bought a Nissan LEAF, was full of plaudits for the vehicle, explaining that not having to spend any money on fuel is a great benefit.
