Retrofitting 'could help firms prepare for introduction on LEZ'

Date: 15/12/2011
Retrofitting could be a solution for enterprises that wish to avoid paying the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) charges but cannot afford to purchase a new vehicle. From January 2012, larger motors such as vans, lorries and motorised caravans will have to pay to travel within the LEZ if they do not meet Euro 3 emission standards.
GreenUrban Technologies has pointed out that many enterprises may not have the budget to purchase new vehicles that comply with the regulations and could therefore use eco-trap technology to retrofit their existing fleet.
This solution reduces particulate output from diesel engines by more than 95 per cent.
Transportation, warehousing and distribution firm Swain Group is one company to adopt the technology and upgrade over 100 trucks.
Group Managing Director the firm Bob Swain said: "It's vital that our drivers can enter London without being charged. By preparing for the changes now we can begin the new year ready for business."
