Revamped MOT certificate launched

Date: 13/10/2011
A revamped MOT certificate has been launched by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).While the previous version was printed on green paper with white boxes in which the text was featured, the new-look document will use black ink on one plain A4 sheet.
However, it still provides the same official confirmation that an MOT has been carried out and recorded by the necessary parties.
One of the benefits of the new certificate is that any advisory notices will now feature on this single sheet of paper, where previously they were printed separately.
These are the defects that the mechanic warns the car owner about, but which would not lead to an MOT failure.
This means that any buyers purchasing a second-hand vehicle will be able to see all these potential faults when they get the certificate, rather than the separate sheet not being handed over.
Alastair Peoples, Chief Executive of VOSA, said: "Motorists will benefit by having all the details about their car included on one sheet of paper, making it easier to keep track of your paperwork and allowing people buying used cars to see all the relevant information about the vehicle."
In addition to MOTs, the government is to launch a revamped theory test from next year.
The potential questions and answers will no longer be made public, following concerns that learners could memorise them without fully understanding them.
