RHA condemns high cost of diesel

Date: 17/4/2012
The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has called for the cost of diesel in the UK to be lowered.Over the past month, the organisation claimed retailers have doubled their profit margin, with prices being increased by the threat of a tanker drivers' strike.
Chief Executive of the RHA Geoff Dunning explained profit margins, which were already reasonable, have now leapt to 7.4p a litre.
This is despite the wholesale price of diesel being reduced.
"There is no justification whatever for this excessive charging," Mr Dunning continued.
"If this goes on any longer, the RHA is considering referring forecourt pricing to the Office of Fair Trading."
He claimed the high prices are negatively affecting the economy and will be even more unwelcome when fuel tax goes up by 3.02p per litre on August 1st.
This increase was announced by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne in his budget speech at the end of last month.
