RHA urges MPs to sign fuel duty petition

Date: 30/5/2012
Almost 30 MPs have signed up to a campaign to scrap the fuel duty increase. So far, the Road Haulage Association (RHA) has collected 28 signatures and is urging more of those at Westminster to do the same.
At the moment, the cost of fuel in the UK is due to rise by 3p per litre from August 1st.
The RHA noted that hauliers in particular will be affected by the changes.
"Since October 2010, every penny increase has added £398 a year to a haulier's operating costs - that has meant an increase of £5,218 per truck per year relating to fuel," said RHA Chief Executive Geoff Dunning.
He added that although the fall in diesel costs is to be welcomed, the sector cannot become complacent.
The RAC is also running a petition to get fuel prices lowered in Britain and patrolman Prakesh Patel encouraged both businesses and individual motorists to get involved.
