Road and rail research come together in new partnership

Date: 24/8/2011
Improved road and rail transport research and better understanding of the two across modes is the aim of a new strategic partnership agreed by two leading industry transport organisations.TRL (Transport Research Laboratory) and RSSB (Railway Safety and Standards Board) have announced they are to join forces to share thinking, combine expertise and develop new solutions that deliver value for rail.
The outcome will be a combined approach for solving transport problems, by sharing innovation, technology and expertise for both road and rail.
Particular areas of interest for the partnership include future-proofing critical transport networks in terms of sustainability, energy efficiency and climate change and developing new initiatives and funding streams from outside the UK.
In addition, it is believed that the collaboration will provide the joint platform necessary to deliver better value solutions that will benefit TRL's customers and members of RSSB.
Sue Sharland, Chief Executive of TRL, says: "This partnership will build on a wealth of experience in rail and transport and will enable both organisations to develop and deliver new, cost-effective solutions to a broader transport market, as well as the international rail industry."
