Road safety at Sheffield junctions 'to be improved'

Road safety at Sheffield junctions 'to be improved'

Date: 19/1/2011

Road safety is on the agenda in Sheffield, where two busy junctions are set to undergo work to make them safer.

According to the Yorkshire Post, the project will begin later this month on the junction of Heavygate Road and Northfield Road in Walkley, while Dyche Road in Jordanthorpe, between Hazlebarrow Crescent and Lingfoot Crescent, will also be a focus.

The first junction will be completely reshaped and a pedestrian crossing will be installed, while as part of the second project existing crossing facilities will be improved, along with street lights and road humps.

John Charlton, Sheffield Council's Director of Street Force, said: "Local people asked for road safety improvements in both these areas and we've planned them to minimise any disruption."

The work is expected to be completed in three weeks, depending on weather conditions.

Earlier in the month, the Jarrow and Hebburn Gazette reported that councillors on South Tyneside have given the go-ahead for traffic calming measures to be introduced on the Lyndons estate in South Boldon, with the proposals now the subject of a formal consultation.
