Road safety at the TT races appears to have improved

Date: 15/6/2010
Road safety at this year's TT races in the Isle of Man appears to have improved following the release of statistics that reveal accidents are down 13 per cent compared with 2009.Head of the island's Roads Policing Unit Inspector Mark Britton said there were 86 collisions at this year's festival, compared to 99 last year.
He noted the findings have been reduced thanks to a road safety campaign, which has been developed to cut the number of injuries and fatalities caused at the event.
"It seems people are heeding the warnings and clearly they are avoiding the fines that can result and, importantly, reducing the number of serious accidents leading to death or life changing injuries," Inspector Britton added.
Instead of the usual eight officers from the Roads Policing Unit, 18 were on duty during the occasion, along with an additional Sergeant and two extra Inspectors.
Road Safety Minister Mike Penning recently launched a new website to help bikers choose the safest helmet.
