Road safety campaign launched at IoM Grand Prix

Date: 18/8/2011
A new road safety campaign has got underway, using the Isle of Man Grand Prix as its launch pad.Initiated by the Isle of Man Constabulary and the Department of Infrastructure, the tagline for 2011 is Stay Alert, Stay Safe.
To get the importance of its message across, the campaign will make use of images of real life traffic accidents taken from police archives to leave what is hoped will be a lasting impression on the minds of locals and tourists.
Over the next few weeks, displays will be set up around the island where members of the public will be able to meet the Road Safety Team behind the scheme and discuss issues relating to this subject.
The Isle of Man Grand Prix is the sister race to the TT Festival and sees motorcyclists racing on the island's roads.
Inspector Terry Stephen, Head of the Roads Policing Unit, said: "With the increase in visitors on our roads comes an increased risk. Our aim is to keep the roads safe throughout the festival and we will be working closely with the Department of Infrastructure to do this."
