Road safety campaign launched on Isle of Wight

Date: 7/3/2011
A road safety campaign is being used to warn young drivers on the Isle of Wight about the risks they could face on the island's roads.Entitled Head On, a DVD has been produced that features images captured following a fatal collision in Ryde in which two teenagers were killed.
In 2008, George Hamon, 17, and Guy Knight 16, were passengers in a car travelling down Brading Road near Beaper Shute when the vehicle collided with a Mercedes.
The parents of the two boys are interviewed for the DVD, along with members of the emergency services teams who were called to the scene.
It is planned that the film will be screened to students as part of a campaign that has included mocking up car crashes.
Speaking to the Isle of Wight County Press, Toby Knight, the father of Guy - who was killed in the 2008 crash - said: "If, through this road-awareness initiative, just one young person stops and considers the consequences of their actions, then Guy and George's deaths won't have been in vain."
Road Safety Week in the UK this year, organised by the charity Brake, will focus on drivers in this age group and is entitled 2 Young 2 Die.
