Road safety 'has never been more important'

Date: 8/10/2010
It has never been more important to implement road safety practices, according to one police officer.Chief Superintendent Gill Imery, Edinburgh's Divisional Commander, told the Edinburgh Evening News the onset of autumn and winter brings additional hazards to the roads.
She was speaking ahead of a safety event entitled Don't be a Fool, be Cool on the Road, which is due to be held at the Ocean Terminal shopping centre this weekend (October 9th and 10th).
At the road show, people will be invited to try out simulated car crashes such as the Seatbelt Sled, which replicates the force of hitting a brick wall at 15 mph.
Ms Imery said: "With the darker nights drawing in, keeping yourself and your family safe on the road has never been more important."
Road Safety Week, which is taking place from November 22nd to 28th, also aims to raise awareness of driving hazards and will focus particularly on the dangers of speeding.
