Parents of children who attend primary and high schools in Great Barr, Birmingham, are to have the peace of mind that their kids will be able to walk to school safely, as new road safety measures in the area get the go-ahead.Aldridge Road in Old Oscott will undergo a £60,000 transformation under the council scheme, which will include the installation of new warning signs and traffic islands, according to the Birmingham Mail.
In addition, new parking bays, single yellow lines and waiting restriction notifications will also be introduced in an effort to prevent people from parking outside the school gates.
By the end of June, the work will have seen 16 new street lights going up in the vicinity, while safe crossing points will also be installed.
Councillor Keith Linnecor said: "With more and more traffic along the road, these measures should prevent accidents and school children from being injured."
