Road safety message 'driven home by youngsters'

Date: 9/6/2010
Children are helping to promote the message of this year's Road Safety Week, which is due to take place from November 22nd to 28th.Road safety charity Brake notes that efforts are underway to encourage teachers of younger pupils to get involved in the campaign, which this year has the theme: Kids Say Slow Down.
It aims to drive home the message that while travelling through towns and residential areas, 20 mph is fast enough.
Such a message may help to reduce the number of child deaths on the country's roads, the organisation hopes.
As part of the effort to encourage involvement with the campaign, resource packs are being made available to teachers, giving ideas for how to encourage children and their families to get involved in the initiative.
Figures released by the Department for Transport earlier this year show that the number of pupils who walk to school is continuing to decline.
