Road safety volunteers in Lancashire 'praised for their contribution'

Date: 2/6/2010

Volunteers in Lancashire have been praised for their efforts in providing road safety information to children across the region.

Lancashire County Council's Road Safety Group has helped almost 400 volunteers deliver vital data on staying safe to more than 20,000 pupils at schools in the vicinity, About My Area reports.

Headteacher at Peel Park Primary School in Accrington Judith Williams said the skills kids have learnt will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

She also thanked those who gave up their time to participate in the initiatives.

Road Safety Group Deputy Manager Clare Farrer remarked: "Road safety is an important issue for all families and our Right Start Child Pedestrian and Passport to Safer Cycling courses give children the vital skills and knowledge they need to stay safe."

Meanwhile, students in Suffolk have been learning how to ride their bikes safely following a scheme organised by the Road Safety Partnership in conjunction with local police.
