Road Safety Week 2011 to focus on safety of young people

Date: 6/1/2011
Road Safety Week 2011 is set to be held November 21st-27th and this year's theme has been revealed.Brake, the road safety charity, has announced the event this year will focus on the injury and death of young people involved in accidents.
Of particular importance to the organisation is drink and drugs, overtaking dangerously, speeding and not wearing seatbelts.
Local authorities, schools, companies and emergency services are all being urged by Brake to start planning their involvement in the week.
A 2010 Department for Transport report revealed that in 2009, 125 young people were seriously injured, while 11 were killed, every week in Britain in road crashes.
Those who choose to get involved at a local level have also been told they can decide upon a different theme for their area.
Recent research by Direct Line and Brake found nearly four out of ten drivers get behind the wheel the morning after drinking large amounts the night before.
