Road safety advert best ever?

Date: 4/5/2010

A road safety advert designed to encourage people to wear seatbelts is being called one of the 'greatest ever'.

The Embrace Life trailer was made for the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) and establishments from 129 countries have purchased the clip to persuade motorists and passengers to belt up, the Daily Mirror reports.

Over the last three months the 60-second video, which portrays a dad miming a car accident before his partner and child use their arms to restrain him and save his life, has had around six million hits on YouTube.

Neil Hopkins from SSRP remarked: "From a really small start it's become a global monster. It has smashed all our expectations."

He added that so far the French government, schools, road safety organisations, Shell and state troopers in the US are among those who have asked for the ad.

Hampshire Police recently caught 52 people not wearing a seatbelt during an operation in Winchester.

Those found breaking the law were given the choice to pay a fine or attend an education class on road safety.
