Roads in Isle of Wight get a £365 million boost

Well maintained local networks which work well for road users are vital for communities and businesses to thrive, according to Sadiq Khan, Transport Minister."This funding will bring better, safer roads and more reliable journeys to the people of the Isle of Wight whether they are travelling for work or leisure," said Mr Khan.
His comments emerge as the government has announced £365 million of new funding to updgrade the roads in the Isle of Wight.
The works will include road surface improvement and maintenance, footway and cycleway improvement, maintenance on bridges, improvements in street lighting, upgrading traffic signals, signs, street nameplates and road marking, street cleaning and winter maintenance.
The Private Finance Initiative (PFI) funding will carry out these vital improvements for the Isle of Wight Council over the next 25 years.
He goes on to add that the improved infrastructure will boost the local economy by attracting businesses to the area.
Works are scheduled to being in 2013.
