Running costs 'encouraging more firms to try electric vehicles'

Running costs 'encouraging more firms to try electric vehicles'

Date: 1/5/2012

The high cost of running multiple vehicles is encouraging smaller businesses to adopt electric cars.

This is according to freelance motoring journalist Carlton Boyce, who suggested low-carbon motors are becoming more of a priority as firms look to save money.

He said there are many electric vans that can now deliver multiple benefits for companies, as well as reducing their running costs.

"If a firm operates in a city and undertakes journeys of fewer than 50 miles then the use of an electric van … offers them a unique opportunity to demonstrate their environmental credentials," Mr Boyce stated.

He recommended the Renault Kangoo ZE, as this van is also a "great drive".

Renault recently welcomed the government's decision to extend the plug-in car grant scheme to vans, as it should help to encourage the take-up of more eco-friendly commercial vehicles.

Firms using the scheme would be able to purchase the Kangoo ZE for £13,592 instead of £16,990, making it just £1,000 more expensive than the diesel alternative.
