Date: 11/2/2010

Low-cost airline Ryanair has announced it is to fly a new route between Edinburgh and Marrakech, it has been reported.

The new route will be opened in May and is the first route to this destination from Scotland.

A total of three new routes have been added by Ryanair from Edinburgh airport recently, with frequency of flights being increased on an additional nine routes.

Earlier this week the airline announced a new route between Edinburgh and Kaunus in Lithuania.

Following the introduction of the new routes and increased frequency on others, Ryanair's traffic at Edinburgh airport is expected to reach 2.5 million passengers a year.

Managing director of Edinburgh airport Gordon Dewar commented; "The addition of new routes and the increase in frequency of flights makes Edinburgh better connected than ever before."

The airport handled over nine million passengers in 2008 and serves 40 airlines flying to more than 100 destinations.
