Safety drive to cover potholes 'is on target'

Date: 13/10/2010

A project to eradicate the potholes on Barnet's roads has been declared on target by the council.

According to the Barnet and Potters Bar Times, many drivers were concerned about the safety of themselves and cyclists after extreme winter weather damaged the roads at the beginning of this year.

Councillor Brian Coleman promised to prioritise the issue when he took up a transport post in the council in May, pledging to have all potholes filled before November.

In a statement, Barnet Council said it is "on course" to eliminate all the defects from the roads, as the programme has been delivered "on time and on budget".

Completion of the project will allow the town's residents "to go about their business safely and smoothly", it added.

Earlier this month, Chief Claims Manager at NFU Mutual John Kenny warned of another danger that can cause vehicles to skid or go off course - mud left on the road by farmers.
