Sainsbury's has become the first supermarket to be accredited to the Van Excellence scheme.Managed by the Freight Transport Association (FTA), the initiative requires companies to satisfactorily meet the standards of the Van Excellence Code, which was established by a group of leading van fleet operators.
It was voted best new service at the recent 2012 Fleet News Awards and now has more than 100 registered van fleets.
Sainsbury's is the 25th business to receive accreditation since the scheme launched in 2010.
Head of Vans and Light Commercial Vehicles at the FTA Mark Cartwright said: "Achievement of this standard has been a significant investment in hard work and commitment by the company and we congratulate Sainsbury's on their successful accreditation."
Van Excellence aims to improve standards of compliance among van operators and helps increase safety for van drivers and other road users, as well as ensuring participating brands receive recognition from the industry.
